I don't really see a problem with this. Their job is to prevent acts of terrorism, which are just as likely to come from American nationals as foreigners, and there is no indication from these documents they have taken any sort of action to disrupt legitimate, peaceful groups or protests. The Department of Defense is spying domestically on citizens? This isn't the FBI, it's not the CIA, it's the Army/Navy/Airforce/Marines/Coast Guard. Generaly, the U.S. military has been legally prohibited from being used for law enforcement functions domestically. Obviously during large scale disasters, riots, and rebellions... governors will call in the national guard. I do not think that the "job" of the U.S. military was ever designed to prevent acts of terrorism. The "job" of the U.S. military has always been to fight wars. I'm not as shocked and outraged about this as a lot of people are. It doesn't suprise me at all. I have a pretty cynical view on the government and the military. The point to me, rather... is of all the things the U.S. military could be engaged in surveillance of U.S. citizens, they seem to largely be focused on those who protest their recruitment. To me, this helps validate countering military recruitment as a potentially effective strategy against the war in Iraq. By comparison, the DOD doesn't seem to be tracking the peace candle vigil outside of the Baltimore Friends center, or the one that happens regularly near the Washington Monument in Mount Vernon, Baltimore. i couldn't agree more Flint, i think recruitment should be a high priority for revolutionaries in this time period. holy shit, we agree? We agree on things all the time, dork. How convenient that we share this viewpoint and live in the same city! *cough*meeting!*cough* Read some of your comments (NYC transport) and liked them. Yay! I'm making people become friends! Yes, but I think my opinions might cause me to not get invited to the cool parties in NYC. ;) ug, i can't bear another year. HAHAHAHA! I was just at the Mid-Atlantic Radical Bookfair meeting. I had to use my awesome sense of order to get folks to agree to nine 110 minute and eighteen 50 minute time slots for the smaller rooms. Soon, we too will have a spreadsheet! Muhahhahaha! The one thing that is always a comfort to me.... none of these govt. morons have any clue what the other is up too (department wise). And that is straight from a horses mouth or would that be ass??? (Flint, you know of whom I am implying!) I'll have to tell you something funny in person one day. That "in person" thing is quite troublesome, no? ;)
